Azadi ka amrit mahotsav Milkha Singh: Before the year 1950, India’s name in athletics was not very famous in the world of sports. Players used to display their game and skills, but they were not good enough to win any medal for India in athletics. But that year was 1958 when Milkha Singh, world famous by the name of Flying Sikh, won the first gold medal for India in Commonwealth Games i.e. Commonwealth Games.

Although India had won the medal before this, but it was not gold. Milkha Singh did the work of getting India the first gold in athletics. The Commonwealth Games of 1958 were played in Cardiff and Milkha Singh did an amazing job. He won India’s gold medal in the run of 440 yards on 24 July 1958.

This achievement of Milkha Singh was so great that the then Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had even declared a national holiday. Although today’s generation does not know much about Milkha Singh, but after watching the film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag on Milkha Singh in the year 2013, the younger generation came to know who Milkha Singh was after all. The role of Milkha Singh was played by Farhan Akhtar in it.

Milkha Singh was born in Pakistan, but came to India after partition. During this time, how many problems he had to face, this film was shown very well. Milkha Singh won the gold medal for India in the Asian Games four times. Milkha Singh had participated in a total of 80 races in his life, the special thing is that he lost only three of them and he managed to win the race 77 times. In the Asian Games 1958, Milkha Singh won gold in 200m and 400m. Not only this, after this in the year 1962, he also secured first place in 400 meters and 400 meters relay races.

Milkha Singh’s dream was to win a gold medal for India in the Olympics as well. But in the 1960 Olympics held in Rome, he remained in fourth place and missed out on bringing a medal for India.

Milkha Singh’s fast escape record broken after nearly 38 years

Milkha Singh had set a record for India to complete the race in 45.6 seconds. This record remained in his name for about 38 years, after which Paramjit did the work of breaking it in the year 1998. Last year i.e. in June 2021, Milkha Singh died due to corona after completing the age of about 91 years.

A few days before his wife Nirmal Kaun had died, after that now Milkha Singh also passed away. Milkha Singh’s son Jeev Milkha is also in the world of sports, but he is a golfer. He is counted among the top golfers not only in the country but in the world.
