Dolphin count in Chilika starting from today; 160 employees with 18 teams

Chilika: Balugaon Wildlife Department and Chili Development Authority-CDA will conduct a joint census of Irrawaddy dolphins in Chili for three days from today. Extensive preparations have been made for this. In this context, a training camp for enumerators has been held in the premises of the wildlife department office at Balugaon Chilika Phar. The camp was chaired by Wildlife Division ACF Prashant Kumar Panda and CDA Senior Scientist Gurdeep Rastogi, Pradeept Ranjan Muduli and Vinod Acharya Major participated in this camp and imparted training for Nirbhul Dolphin Counting in Chilika.

The enumeration process has been started in Chili with the joint efforts of Forestry and CDA. A total of 160 employees with 18 teams have been involved in this calculation. Counting work has been started by 8 teams from Satpada Range and 10 from Balugao Range in Chile. The counting process will start from 6 am and will continue till 12 pm. The census consists of forest staff, CDA staff, dolphin experts, volunteers and environmentalists along with a boatman. A team consists of 5 to 6 people. DFO informs that counting will be done through binoculars, GPS, and range finder.
