Fish caught in vigilance net: Revenue assistant arrested while taking Rs 50,000 bribe

Puri: Jitu Ranjan Chattoi, a senior revenue assistant working in the office of Puri Upazilapal, was arrested by the Bhubaneswar vigilance team while accepting a bribe of 50,000 tonkas for changing the category of a piece of land. Puri Sadar Bhartipur Mauza was receiving this offer from Ramesh Mahapatra in connection with the change of land type. While the Revenue Inspector fixed the price of Rs 15,000 for conversion of the concerned land, saying that it would be more than the bench valuation, Mr. Chattoi demanded Rs 1 lakh and said that the conversion would be done by paying Rs 50,000. 

The team took the opportunity to inform the Bhubaneswar vigilance team in this regard. Hundreds of lawyers and mohairs are discussing in Kacheri Street. There is a lot of talk about how the general staff in the upazilapal office was able to escape when the vigilance was in the hands. This incident has created fear in other offices. In this connection, a case was registered by the Vigilance Division of Bhubaneswar on 41/21-12-22 and Mr. Chattoi was arrested, while in two other places, property is being searched and property is being assessed.
