IPL will be included in ICC FTP calendar, clearing the way for foreign players to participate
New Delhi, Online Desk. IPL media rights for 2023 to 2027 season were sold for 48,390 crores. This jump in the brand value of IPL has also knocked for the expansion of IPL in future. This is the reason why BCCI secretary Jay Shah has said that IPL will be given a bigger window in the ICC FTP calendar from the 2024 edition.
Talking to PTI, Jay Shah said, “This is an aspect that we have worked on. Let us tell you that there will be an official window of two and a half months for IPL in the next ICC FTP calendar, so that all the top international cricketers will not face any problem. We have talked to various boards as well as the ICC for this to be able to participate in the IPL.
Currently, the ICC FTP calendar is running between 2018 and 2023, which will end after the ODI World Cup. This World Cup will be played in India in October-November 2023. Apart from this, BCCI is also talking on other proposals like playing friendly matches of IPL team with overseas team.
For this we have to talk to the rest of the cricket boards. However, despite the IPL having more matches, the BCCI is committed to international matches regarding the ICC calendar. He said that Indian cricket will be strong only when world cricket develops.
He said that all bilateral international commitments will be respected in all formats. We are playing Ireland in two matches this month in T20 Internationals. We want a strong international circuit and want to help smaller cricketing nations by playing against them.”
Shah also said about two Indian teams together
The BCCI secretary said that he is also talking to the head of the National Cricket Academy, VVS Laxman, that we should always have 50 players in our roster so that in future, two different Indian teams for Test and ODI cricket can play in different countries. For More Info Join LiveInfo
