New Delhi: Following the assembly elections in five states, including Uttar Pradesh, discussions are underway on the country’s next president. The current election results have also strengthened the position of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in the Rajya Sabha. In terms of numbers, the party’s position in this year’s presidential election remains strong. Meanwhile, the BJP is debating the name of the next president.
The President of India is elected through the Electoral College. The election college has six members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and a total of 4,120 MLAs from different states. The electorate has a total electorate of 10,6,603 and the BJP has more than 50 per cent of the total electorate. In each case, the people have, for the first time, been offered a chance to vote. In Uttar Pradesh, each legislator has 207 votes. The BJP has won power in four states, including UP, the country’s largest state. The BJP’s record-setting victory in UP will affect the Rajya Sabha elections to be held on March 31 and the possible presidential elections in July. In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP and its allies have won 283 seats. So there will be no problem in winning the BJP candidate in the upcoming presidential election.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu is said to be in the lead for the top post. Similarly, the BJP leadership has not decided whether to give a second term to incumbent President Ramnath Kobind. So far, only the country’s first president, Rajendra Prasad, has twice served a term. “It simply came to our notice then. According to official sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will finally decide who will be the most suitable person for the Presidential Palace. Opposition groups called for a boycott of the assembly.
