Born in Bihar, then became an IAS officer

Yashwant Sinha was born on 06 November 1937 in a Kayastha family in Asthawan village of Nalanda district of Bihar. He has completed his Masters in Political Science. After this he was also a professor in Patna University for some time. In 1960, Sinha was selected for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). He served as an IAS for 24 years. During this time he was also Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. He was later appointed as First Secretary Commercial in the Embassy of Germany. Between 1973 and 1975, he was made the Consul General of India.

Political journey started again

In 1984, Yashwant Sinha resigned from the administrative service and joined the Janata Party. This is where his political career started. In 1986, he was made the general secretary of the party. In 1988, he became a Rajya Sabha MP for the first time. When Janata Dal was formed in 1989, he joined it. The party made him the national general secretary. During this, he was also the Finance Minister in Chandrashekhar’s government from 1990 to 1991.

In 1996, he became the national spokesperson of the BJP. In 1998, he was made the Finance Minister in the Central Government. After this he was also made the foreign minister. Lost the election in 2004. In 2005, he was again made a Rajya Sabha MP. Sinha resigned from the BJP in 2009. In 2021, he joined TMC. The party made him the national vice-president.
